The Process and Purpose

In October, Houma was selected along with 11 other communities in Louisiana to participate in Louisiana Economic Development’s Development Ready Communities Pilot Program. LED is aggressively moving forward in its efforts to take Louisiana from good to great and it needs great competitive communities to cultivate and attract innovation and business development. The Development Ready Communities is a statewide readiness program that all of Louisiana’s communities can choose to participate in.

Competitive advantage is at the very heart of a community’s performance in today’s economic environment. A community is very much akin to a product for sale. A community must be ready to capture an opportunity when it presents itself.

The more than six month long process will include many steps along the way including multiple town hall meetings, the citizen survey (available on this Web site), a business survey, assessment of local inventory, the development of both long- and short-term strategic plans and the development of a marketing and communications plan.
